How To Clean & Repurpose Your Candle Vessel

Once your candle has burned down and reached the end of its life, there are numerous creative ways to repurpose the vessel. To prevent overheating and safety risks, it's advisable to stop burning the candle when there's about 1/4" of wax remaining. Here's a guide on effectively cleaning out your candle container.

  1. The Freezing Technique: Place your candle in the freezer for a few hours, causing the wax to contract and detach from the jar's edges. This method is most effective when there's approximately half an inch of wax left. Use a spoon to scrape out the wax and wick. If the wax proves stubborn, extend the freezing time before attempting again or explore alternative methods.

  2. The Boiling Water Method: Boil water and pour it into the jar, stopping just before it overflows. This melts the wax, causing it to float to the top. Let it sit for around 30 minutes or until all the wax has risen. Remove the solidified wax with your fingers or a spoon, empty the water, and clean the jar with warm water and dish soap to eliminate any remaining wax or residue.

  3. The Heat Gun Approach: The heat gun method is our preferred choice for its simplicity and speed. If you're a DIY enthusiast, a heat gun likely resides in your toolkit. Use the heat gun in a circular motion to slowly melt the wax inside the jar, ensuring not to focus heat on a single spot to prevent breakage. Remove the wick, wipe the jar with a paper towel, and wash it with warm water and dish soap.

Once you have successfully removed the leftover wax from your vessel you can either simply discard it or you can continue to enjoy it by using it as a wax melt on a warmer!

Vessel Repurposing Ideas: Once cleaned, your candle vessel can serve various purposes. It can be used as a pen holder on a desk, holder for cotton pads or Q-tips, a planter, a makeup brush holder, a tea light holder, and more. Be creative as the possibilities are limitless!
