Learn Daruma

About The Daruma

In Japanese culture, the Daruma Doll is a lucky charm figure which symbolizes perseverance, luck and success. The dolls have weights at the bottom, so when they fall down they automatically bob back up again, symbolising perseverance and the ability to overcome adversity. There is a Japanese phrase ‘nana korobi yaoki‘ literally meaning ‘fall seven times, rise up eight’ and comes from the notion of daruma bouncing back despite hardship. It’s the English equivalent of the phrase ‘if you don’t succeed, try and try again.’

After the burning ceremony the ashes left behind symbolize the end of an old chapter and the beginning of a new. Our candle features a wax Daruma placed at the top, so once you light your wooden wick watch as your Daruma slowly melts away by the flame to signify rebirth for your new year.

You will notice both eyes of your Daruma are blank.

Here's how to use your Daruma:

  1. Clearly define your wish or goal to achieve. The more specific you are in formulating your wish, the more likely it is to be fulfilled (wishing for a life full of happiness is nice, but it is not specific. Instead, think about what action will allow you to achieve that happiness). Naturally, choose a goal that is achievable and quantifiable in terms of actions
  2. Paint the left eye in black. By completing this step, you seal your own commitment to the goal you have set for yourself
  3. Place the daruma in a prominent place at home
  4. Take action without losing sight of your goal
  5. Paint the right eye once you have reached your goal or fulfilled your wish

Candle Care

Candle Care Tips: Before you light your candle, trim all wicks to ¼”. Light all wicks and let the candle burn until there is an even layer of melted wax across the top. This sets a memory in your wax to always burn to the outer edges of the candle (as opposed to straight down the wick). When you’re done burning the candle, always use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. You must re-trim the wick / remove the “bud” before each re-light. Never leave your candle unattended.

Ingredients: 100% Soy Wax & Premium Oil Fragrance (Phthalate & Paraben Free).

A Little Cutie!

This is a very rich and decadent smelling candle. Certainly one to burn for special occasions. The daruma detail on the top of the candle makes it very hard to want to light though, he's so cute! The small daruma that was included was a very nice addition to the purchase as well. This was definitely fragrant even before lighting, however as a migraine sufferer, this didn't trigger any of the usual headaches I would normally experience from scented candles. Very happy!
